Nike wants the high school athlete brand. ChatGPT wants your health data. Midjourney wants a daily habit.

Nike / High School NIL

The Story:
Nike signed 11 high school football players to NIL deals. We are talking 15, 16, and 17 year old athletes. Previously, it went one direction: high school, college, professional league, and then a major endorsement. Now, Nike has pulled the NIL deal pipeline forward.

The Real Story:
The story isn’t really about betting on future NFL talent. It’s about portfolio investing methodology applied to teenage athletes. Nike can sign high school stars early with the understanding that only a few need to become household names for the whole bet to work. But one of the bigger shifts is what these athletes already represent before they step foot on a college campus. A top athlete is not longer just a recruit. they are a media property, personal brand, content engine, and future merchandise business.

The Shift:
Colleges are no longer simply recruiting athletes, they are reacruiting brands. We saw early signals of this from athletes like Livvy Dunne. Players will arrive on campus with an audience, sponsors, and real business value already attached to their name. Nike didn’t just sign 11 high school players, it moved the endorsement upstream.

ChatGPT Health/Personal OS

The Story:
ChatGPT Health launched to connect all of our dispersed health data from sources like Function Health, WHOOP, Apple Health, and medical records. Instead of lab results, sleep data, recovery metrics and doctor notes living in siloed apps, users can bring those signals into a single interface to ask what it all means.

The Real Story:
This isn’t a story about replacing doctors. It’s about empowering the patient position in the healthcare system. Most information is delivered in fragments: lab portal, wearable dashboard, doctor visit recap. Now ChatGPT health turns that scattered info into something usable.

The Shift:
ChatGPT is becoming less of a chatbot and more like a personal operating system. Health is the most obvious use case because the data is personal, fragmented, and inherently hard to interpret. AI is moving from answering isolated questions to organizing the most complex and important parts of your life.

Midjourney/Co-star

The Story:
Midjourney acquires the wildly successful astrology app Co-Star and its 4.3M monthly users. Co-Star founder Banu Guler has been appointed Chief Design Officer and will help launch Midjourney’s first standalone consumer app.

The Real Story:
This isn’t about cosmic energy. Co-Star is a personalization engine wrapped in astrology, and that’s exactly daily engagement habit AI companies need. Midjourney may have one of the strongest image models in the world, but it has mostly lived inside Discord. No true standalone app, no native consumer relationship, and no daily ritual. Co-Star brings all three.

The Shift:
Powerful models are no longer enough. AI companies need habit, taste, emotional context, and a good reason for people to come back every day. Midjourney is buying a shortcut into consumer intimacy.

DREAM IN PUBLIC

The hardest part of building an audience is realizing your taste might not be enough. This week was a reminder that not every story we find interesting lands the same way with the people watching. To us, some ideas feel sharp, timely, and worth paying attention to, but the audience disagrees. Every post becomes a test of where our curiosity overlaps with what people actually want to stop and think about. The goal for us isn’t to chase the algorithm or let the feed decide what matters. It’s to keep listening enough that our instincts sharpen. Follow us on Insta: @glovejones.

THE KEEP

The best tools help you see what’s emerging. Drew is context toggling between three companies all day every day. He has thousands of conversations throughout the year. In order to stay present in the conversations, he leverages tools to help deliver action post calls. This week, Drew shared an experiment: 62 conversations over six weeks with founders, researchers, robotics companies, insurance carries, wealth managers, GLP-1 experts, and AARP. The goal was to build conviction around the gap between Healthspan and lifespan. Granola captured the conversations, Claude helped connect the patterns, and Affinity tracked the thesis threads in real time. By the end, the signal got clearer: people are living longer but the infrastructure for extended life doesn’t exist. That’s where the best tools move from simply taking notes to becoming the connective tissue between curiosity, conversation, pattern recognition, and conviction.
